Nancy L. Appleby - Director At Large 

Nancy began her FDIC career in 1977 with the Division of Finance (ne’ Division of Accounting and Corporate Services) as an Assessment Auditor in the New York Region where she conducted assessment audits of the largest insured banks in the Northeastern United States including Citibank bringing in significant monies to the Deposit Insurance Fund. In 1982, she transferred to Headquarters as Assistant Chief of Financial Operations and in 1983 became Chief of Financial Operations where she was responsible for managing the Corporation’s payroll, accounts payable, travel reimbursement, travel policy and cash management; this during a period of significant FDIC staff growth going from 3,500 employees in 1982 to in excess of 10,000 in 1989. In 1989, Nancy transferred to the Atlanta Region/RTC in order to join her husband, James Brenner. During the period beginning in 1989 she held the positions of Deputy Regional Financial Officer; Field Accounting Officer (FDIC/Atlanta); Accounting Officer (Chicago Region); and Accounting Manager (Dallas Region) in support of receivership accounting related activities which included general accounting, receivership tax, budget, and accounts payable; and finally co-managed the Deposit Compliance Analysis Section (Assessment Audit) centralized in Dallas before retiring in 2000 to become more involved with her and Jim’s young daughter’s education, volunteer activities and music performance.

In early 2009, Nancy returned to the FDIC in Dallas as a Resolutions and Receiverships Specialist under special hiring authority to deal with the increase in bank failures. She then accepted a term position as a Financial Manager co-managing the Receivership Tax Unit.

Nancy returned to retirement in April of 2015 to join her husband in Raleigh, NC, and continue her music endeavors and volunteer activities.

Ms. Appleby holds a BFA – Music from the University of Wisconsin and attended Bernard Baruch College/City University of New York; MBA Program-Accounting.
