Announcing the 2nd Annual AFDICA Essay Contest

The Association for Federal Deposit Insurance Alumni (AFDICA) proudly announces its 2nd annual essay contest.  The purpose of this contest is to further the AFDICA’s mission to enhance financial literacy education.  The winner will receive an award of $1,000 based on the evaluation of the content, writing style and creativity of an original written essay.

 Eligibility: 

  • A dependent or grandchild of a current Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) employee; AND
  • A current High School Senior who is planning to further their education in the following academic year at an accredited university, college or vocational school

Selection:

  • The award of $1,000 will be granted based on the evaluation of the content, writing style and creativity of a written essay.
  • Contest judging will be conducted anonymously.
  • Essays must be written in English and adhere to the requisite format.  Specific format and other requirements will be listed along with FAQs for contestants.
  • The topic and other requirements will be published in February each year with electronic submissions due by May 1st.  The prize winner will be selected and announced in June.

Topic for 2026:

Explain how growing up as a family member of an FDIC employee affected your views on financial matters.  Please elaborate and explain what financial mistakes you want to avoid as an adult and what best financial practices you plan to employ in your future life.

Timeline for 2026:

Please submit the essay by May 1, 2026 to:  [email protected] in PDF format.  Submissions should be between 500-750 words.
