On November 12, 2021 during AFDICA's virtual annual meeting, AFDICA President Fred Selby virtually presented the Association's 2021 Life Long Achievement to Cathy Brown honoring her late husband, Dr. Richard Alan Brown

Attributes and Achievements of the Awardee:

Dr. Brown (Rich) served as the first Chief Economist at the FDIC.  Rich’s accomplished career set him apart from others, and yet he never allowed his status to change the manner in which he engaged others.  Rich frequently spoke to bankers and other trade groups about the economy, and he was a source sought after by the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, CNBC and other media outlets for insight.  He served on the White House Council of Economic Advisors from 2018-2019, where he specialized in financial regulation and managed that part of the Economic Report of the President.

The savings and loan crisis of the 1980s propelled him into a career in public service with four banking agencies:  The Federal Home Loan Bank Board, The Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation, The Resolution Trust Corporation and The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.  Rich was heavily involved in the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) where he served as a Board Member from 2006-2009 and was named a NABE Fellow in 2017.

Following a four-year battle with brain cancer, Dr. Brown, 58 died on November 8, 2020.
